The History Of…
FREEDIVING EP 1.
This episode traces breath-hold diving from ancient cultural practices to its emergence as an adaptive discipline shaped by access and athlete ingenuity. Through stories of innovation and community, we explore how disabled divers claimed space beneath the surface on their own terms.
STAND UP PARA HOCKEY EP 2.
From frozen ponds to organized para leagues, disabled athletes transformed hockey into a high-speed, full-contact game built around adaptive sled design and competitive excellence. This episode highlights the community organizers and players who fought for recognition and built the sport’s global stage.
PARA BOBSLED EP 3.
Born from adaptive engineering and athlete persistence, para bobsled redefined who could compete in sliding sport. We examine the evolution of sled technology and the athletes who demanded access to the world’s fastest ice tracks.
ADAPTED BASEBALL EP 4.
Long before accessibility policies, Deaf athletes built parallel leagues and communication systems within baseball. This episode explores how visual language, strategy, and community advocacy reshaped the game without compromising its intensity.
WAVESKI EP 5.
Emerging from surf culture and adaptive experimentation, waveski evolved into a powerful seated discipline defined by flow and control. We follow how athletes and designers collaborated to make the ocean more accessible without diluting performance.
BOWHEAD EP 6.
Adaptive mountain biking has transformed off-road cycling for people with mobility disabilities. This episode traces how adaptive engineering by companies like Bowhead, athlete advocacy, and community events have made mountain trails inclusive spaces for adventure and competition.
SPRINTING EP 7.
From early prosthetic prototypes to elite competition, blade technology reshaped modern sprinting. We examine how athletes and engineers pushed performance forward while challenging global perceptions of speed and ability.
SIT SKI EP 8.
What began as rehabilitation equipment evolved into high-performance alpine racing. This episode traces the development of sit ski design and the athletes who turned access into podium-level precision.
Cast
Host Tyler Turner
Tyler Turner is a Canadian Paralympian and adaptive athlete known for his achievements in snowboarding, skydiving and action sports. Tyler lost both legs below the knee from a skydiving accident in 2017, a freak crash during an otherwise routine landing. He spent four days in a coma and years on painkillers, battling depression and addiction while he confronted the loss of his identity as a skydiver, snowboarder, rock climber, surfer and all-around adventure sports athlete.
While some may never wish to skydive again, Tyler overcame the impossible to not only push his own limits, but to redefine what’s imaginable with incredible drive and determination. Tyler took his passion for snowboarding and won Canada’s first gold in Snowboard Cross and bronze in Banked Slalom at the 2022 Beijing Paralympics. He is the three time world champion in Snowboard Cross and three time Crystal Globe winner.
He continues to share his love of skydiving by teaching the sport to new jumpers in the summer, along with pursuing more “firsts” in the sport and pushing his limits. Tyler has gone above and beyond his previous heights becoming the first bilateral amputee to pilot a wingsuit. Tyler sets no limits for himself, constantly redefining what’s possible.
